Actress Detola Jones has dismissed rumours suggesting she is romantically involved with former Big Brother Naija contestant and actor Deolu Okusaga, also known as Saga. These rumours surfaced due to their romantic portrayal in the film Not the Plan.
In an interview, Jones clarified, “Deolu and I are just friends. I believe the rumours started because people were captivated by the chemistry our characters shared in the movie and hoped we were together in real life. However, we are simply friends. We met for the first time on set, but we connected immediately as if we had known each other for years. That’s all there is to it.”
Discussing the beginnings of her acting career, Jones recounted, “I always aspired to be an actress and wanted to be part of the entertainment industry, whether through acting, singing, or dancing. Watching my favourite TV and music idols on screen was something I loved, but a defining moment came when I was about four or five years old. My dad took me to see a play, and it was an electrifying experience. I still remember the joy I felt that day.”
Regarding the challenges she has encountered, Jones stated, “Fortunately, I entered the industry at a time when dark skin was starting to be embraced. I haven’t faced challenges solely because of my skin colour. I hope this acceptance continues. As Africans, we should celebrate all skin colours and body types. For aspiring actors, self-confidence is crucial. There will be various obstacles, and confidence will help overcome at least 99 percent of them.”
