In a tweet in the wee hours of Tuesday, the award-winning producer, director, and one-time Governorship candidate, Funke Akindele, announced the release of her most anticipated project, “Everybody Loves Jenifa.”
Remember that the movie producer gave a snippet of the project in mid-April in an Instagram post. However, nobody knows what the movie distribution would be like. The new title, Everybody Loves Jenifa, suggests a potential return to the core elements that have made the franchise popular.
In a recent tweet through her official x account, formerly known as Twitter, she praised her crew of 175 members for their dedication, while announcing the December release of the movie.
“Proud moment! I want to celebrate the incredible 175 crew members who worked tirelessly for 9 weeks to bring ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ to life! As a self-funded project, I’m honored to have empowered a team of talented individuals, with 95% of them being young people, to showcase their skills. Special shoutout to our Nigerian and Ghanaian crew members who collaborated seamlessly to make this happen. I believe in empowering the next generation and giving them opportunities to shine. And shine they did! Get ready for the movie’s release in December!”
Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele popularly known as Jenifa, is a top Nigerian filmmaker and actress with the most AMVCA wins and the highest-grossing Nigerian director, with over ₦2.9 billion at the box office.
She’s known for her acting prowess in Nollywood and effortless marketing of her movie projects. Akindele’s sitcom Jenifa’s Diary has been a household name in Nigerian television shows since its debut in 2015.
The series has featured actors like Folarin “Falz” Falana, Lolo, Juliana Olayode, Lota Chukwu, Paschaline Alex Okoli, and the late Aderounmu Adejumoke. With her leading the creative team, viewers can anticipate the return of familiar characters and humorous storylines.
