My name is Fatima Usman Haruna I enrolled for the Arts and business course at TAFTA learning center in Kano.

I chose the business option because it aligned with my dream of starting my own business one day and in order to reach that goal, I needed a platform to learn how to write a business proposal, how to source for capital and how to go about getting a business plan. I needed to learn these so that I can create value by identifying business opportunities, creating sellable products and also earn a sustainable income.

The learning process came with several challenges, as some days I don’t even have enough money to even transport myself to the learning center for the business development session but I didn’t give up and continued striving to learn as I needed to have something going on for me.

After the learning and training sessions, I applied for freelance role in a marketing firm and by Allah will I got the job and from my salary I am starting to contribute towards starting my own business.

Here is an excertp af a poem written by Fatima Usman

I’m Albinism
My skin so fair, with eyes so bright,
I shine with beauty, a wondrous sight.
Albinism’s mark, a unique design,
I’m a person rare, with heart, mind, and talents.
Our path’s not easy, with challenges bold,
We face stares and whispers, stories untold.
But still we rise, with courage high,
Our spirit unbroken, we touch the sky.
In Africa’s sun, our skin is gold
We face risks and people’s attitudes so cold
But still we thrive, with resilience strong,
Our albinism, a story to be sung.
So let us celebrate, our differences rare,
With love and acceptance, we show we care.
For in our uniqueness, we find a beauty true,
A treasure to behold, in me and in you.
