Gender Equity Creative Training for the Faculty of Arts took place on 27th July at Lagos State University. TAFTA, in collaboration with CRPSGBV, hosted this impactful training session.

The training session addressed the gender gaps in the creative industries. At the same time, it created an awareness of the countless opportunities that abound in the industry.

The training session attracted over 200 enthusiastic students from the Faculty of Arts. It empowered them with knowledge enough to become ambassadors of change in their various fields. Additionally, they were trained on how to monetize their crafts to grow successful business ventures.

Opening Remark and Welcome Speech

At exactly 11:00 am the event kicked off with the recitation of the national/LASU anthem. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts ushered the students into the issue of the day with an opening remark on Gender Violence. Furthermore, Dr, Egot Ofem, welcomed the participants and requested their full participation throughout the training.

Presentation, Interactive Sessions, and Activities Conducted

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts in her speech, highlighted the school’s dedication to curbing sexual abuse. She encouraged the students to report every case of abuse or violence to the right authority. Then, she assured them of immediate action against the perpetrators.

Immediately after the opening remark, the acting director of CRPSGBV introduced the training and what it hopes to achieve. She further admonished participants to be ambassadors of change wherever they find themselves.

Following the introductory speech, Mrs. Olubunmi, Mr Lanre, and Mr. Leke spoke extensively on Gender Equity. They outlined the various ways TAFTA works to promote representation and empower young creatives.

During the entrepreneurial training, Mr. Sam took the participants through a learning journey on how to monetize their crafts. The entrepreneurial training ended with question-and-answer session.

Conclusion

The training ended with the participants not only being more informed but also inspired to make a difference in their communities. The feedback from the participants was encouraging.  TAFTA looks forward to hosting more such training in the near future.
